This week, we’re talking about the importance of proofreading and editing after all your copy has been written!

It can be very satisfying to write the last word of your draft web copy. But before you upload it to your website, make sure you run it through spell check and double check your grammar.

Have you heard the phrase ‘Grammar is the difference between knowing your sh*t and knowing you’re sh*t’? Well, it’s very important to make sure you are getting the correct message across!

I also strongly advise:

  • Cross checking your original list of features, benefits and objections to make sure you haven’t missed an opportunity to address these.
  • Editing the copy so that it’s suitable for scan readers – by using enticing headlines and fascinating bullet points.
  • Making sure the copy is as succinct as possible.
  • Double checking that no typos have slipped in under the radar!

After going through all of this yourself, it’s a good idea to ask a couple of other people to read through everything.

You might like to ask a copywriting professional to review and edit or simply a trusted family member or friend who will give you an honest opinion. If you have built a great relationship with an already existing client, then why not ask them as someone who was once in the shoes of your potential buyers?

You want to make sure that the copy is easy to read and there is no confusion. You might even find out that vital information has been left off that you can add in!
