This week, we’re talking about optimising your content to ensure your website can be found in web searches!

It is extremely important to make sure that your web copy is Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) friendly. After all, ‘content is king’ in the marketing world!

You need to ensure to feature the same words that the ideal reader will type into Google to find the solution to their problems or needs – in other words, your business! So if your ideal reader is likely to be unfamiliar with particular industry terms, you need to feature layman’s terms as well.

Another way to enhance your website’s visibility in search engines is to establish a blog. Blogs have become a vital inclusion in marketing strategies because they provide the opportunity to present businesses and their staff as the experts in their field. AND Google LOVES blog content! So writing frequently about your area of expertise isn’t just good for your current and potential customers – it will also enhance your SEO.

However, you can’t use the opportunity to use ‘keyword stuffing’ – in other words, cramming as many buzz words as you can into the blog post. Google will catch on very quickly!

Blogs should ideally be written weekly or fortnightly and should be approximately 300 – 500 words long. But if it’s an interesting topic and there are plenty of sub headings, you can get away with having up to 800 words. Just keep in mind that you want to keep the reader engaged, so waffling on will lose all impact!

Having ‘evergreen content’ is a term that you might come across. It basically refers to content that is still interesting and relevant weeks, months or even years after its initial publish date. That means that a blog you post now can potentially attract new customers months and years into the future! So it’s worth putting in the effort now.

Another good point to remember with blogs is to have a short and snappy headline – ideally no more than seven words. And if you keep your titles under 55 characters, you can expect at least 95% of your titles to display properly in Google, which is obviously important if anyone stumbles across your blog!
